Dentist Ingvar Lundgren walks into the city hotel in Örnsköldsvik one late summer day in 1948. He is there to meet with the chairman of the municipal council in Trehörningsjö and the dental care inspector for the county council in Västernorrland. He knows what he wants—a private dental clinic in the small community of Trehörningsjö. In addition to establishing his practice in the town, it is decided after the meeting that he will also help to set up and staff school dental care in both Gideå and Björna. But he will achieve much more than that.
The Dentist in Trehörningsjö is a dramatized account of the events that took place in the small forest community of Trehörningsjö between 1949 and 1965. It tells how, with determination, the community went from a declining existence with the country's second-highest municipal tax to becoming a low-tax municipality with a cultural center and a central location for three municipalities. And how a fierce battle turned everything upside down. At the forefront of the battle was Ingvar Lundgren, the dentist in Trehörningsjö.

This is a completely true story. I have spent five years working on the screenplay and have conducted extensive research, both in archives and through consultations with researchers and other experts. The tone of the story is nostalgically pleasant and warm, depicting life and the countryside in Norrland in the 1950s. It is enlightening, with a deeper message about living your dream, standing up for your convictions, and facing the consequences. It is about the struggle for the community, the school, democracy, and justice.
The book will be published in the traditional manner by Isaberg Förlag and is set to be released on June 27, 2026. Review copies will be available starting in May.
